"No Place Like Home"

There is a painting coming with this graphite drawing. Over and over I return to this image. I don't know why. Done from a photo I took several years ago, I keep wanting to revisit it. It was a happy time and a happy trip but I don't think that is the reason.

Light, Hot and Gargoylicious

This was painted from a photo taken several years ago in Colorado. The light was perfect and there was a feeling of sacred space and that we were in a cathedral of green with the glorious sacrament of light pouring down from above.

Gargoyles are one of my favorite mythical objects. Guardians of cathedrels. This little guy was given to me by my son. He had had it several years then "Jack" came to me. I like to tell stories in my still lifes. These objects all have meaning to me and are part of my story. Chopsticks brought home from Korea. Books i have collected over the years, a cup salvaged because i thought it needed a home. And a birdhouse my daughter gave me made of terra cotta. All have meaning for me and tell more of my story and reveal me.

A hot day in Ghost Ranch. We were curious about the ranch that lured Georgia O'Keefe to New Mexico from New York. She stayed there sveral times and oved there a while. I understand why. The place is like a temple full of sculptured rock and on this day it was bright and hot.  This rock formation is behind the main house and we had hiked up to where we could get a good shot of this chimney like formation.

Playing

Times change. The big deal when i was growing up was VCRs. Now we have internet, DVDs, Blue Rays, virtual keyboards, cell phones that do more than some computers. heinlein would have loved it.

The Book Club

You start with a question. What would a dragon and elf and a dwarf do on a Friday night? This is what i think. Somewhere in another place, our dreams and visions exist. So in my somewhere these three are drinking thier tea and reading books before a roaring fire with dinner on and enjoying thier company.  Charles de Lint says in one of his books we are all stories and we visit each other's stories. So our dreams and ideas are part of those stories. My paintings and drawings are my dreams and they have life.

River in Colorado not far from St. Elmo

The best thing about rivers are the that they trigger memory. My first real memoriy of a river was when i was small and was on a trip with my mom and dad. Dad always made the best trips. On that particular trip we had a cab over camper. We parked at a KOA campground where there was a running  stream. The sound was beautiful and i fell asleep listening to the secrets it was murmuring to itself

Chimney Rock

This is not done either. But again the end is near. Done in hot desert colors, this was done from a photo taken in NM two years ago. There is a ranch called Ghost Ranch, where Georgia O'Keefe stayed and painted and fell in love with NM. I did too. There are rock formations behind the main house that looks like chimneys. It was a hot day dry as it always is. We hiked almost to the chmney and we took photos.

Solitude

No this is not finished but it is getting close. There is something about a sunlit path in the middle of a dark wood that makes one feel peaceful

Mainstreet

The best thing about the West besides the gorgeous mountains and the wonderful hospitality of the people is the great old ghost towns. Nevada City, Virginia City, Bannack all have these great buildings. Walking along these streets with tourists eating ice cream and drinking soda in thier colorful clothes there is a sense that the inhabitants are still here watching and wondering where we all came from. If you are very quiet you can almost hear them with the rattle of wagons and the clink of spurs and the sounds of laughter from the saloon.

"Serenity" 16x20

Titled "Serenity", I painted this from a photo my husband and I took on a vacation to the Western State of Wyoming. In Yellowstone there are lakes and thrermal pools and there are these great rock formations. The idea here is to focus on a feeling of stillnes and light and, well, serenity.

Sitting Bull

One of the greatest Sioux Chiefs. He was worth 100 of the ones who murdered him
This is a tiny painting and I am very pleased with it. The colors are soft and the tree in the foreground shows up vividly
